INKWEED
SPARKPLUG
From Chris Wright (no, not any of the semi-famous athletes with the same name) comes this collected trade of short surreal narratives of melancholy, self-deprecation and love that falls somewhere between a version of Aaahh!! Real Monsters for lonely 20-somethings and fellow Sparkplug compendium The Airy Tales. Each story is imaginative, reflexively contemplative and eerie, including my favorite, an excerpt from Agamemnon. While the drawing style may seem playful, it is quite mature and suits all demographics endowed with an appreciation for unsettling beauty. Wright can write (yesss!) a short story as sublime as he can draw one, and Inkweed will absorb and haunt you.
